What Certification Means
The SMB University certification is a structured program designed to ensure that participants fully understand how private money brokering works from both a foundational and execution standpoint.
Certification Structure
Level 100 — Foundations
Participants complete:
- Course modules
- Deal summaries
- Quizzes
- Final exam
Level 200 — Execution
Participants complete:
- Course modules
- Quizzes
- Final exam
Live Training Requirement
In addition to coursework, participants are expected to:
- Attend a minimum of two live training sessions per week (honor system)
These sessions provide:
- Real-time exposure
- Reinforcement of course material
- Ongoing engagement within the environment
Certification Requirements
To earn the Certified Private Money Broker (CPMB™) designation:
- Complete all Level 100 coursework
- Complete all Level 200 coursework
- Complete all quizzes
- Pass both final exams with a score of 80% or higher
- Participate in live training sessions
Licensing & industry position
In most states:
- A license is not required to broker private money loans
- There are no state-level registration requirements
However:
- A small number of states do require licensing
- It is the responsibility of each individual to understand their state requirements
